CowCow lived up to the advance billing. Five men in the remote Dorset countryside. A crate of wine. A charcoal grill. Metallic mayhem.
Although I improved on my dismal, winless record, I still wound up tied for last with a 1-3 record in the 500 point format. I squeezed in some Mangled Metal as well, winning one out of three matches in that format. 2-5 isn't great - but it sure beats my previous 0-4!
Happily, almost every match was competitive as well - another improvement over the previous tournament.
I did operate under a (well-deserved) jinx. I inserted two Pistol Wraiths into the list as a concession to being more 'competitive', despite the fact that they didn't fit the Cephalyx theme. The Wraiths clearly knew that they didn't belong, and performed disastrously all weekend. It serves me right.
500 Points:
Loss vs. Mercenaries (Fiona): A good, close fight. An assassination run managed to reduce Fiona down to two wounds. Also my first time against the new 'powerhouse' unit of Aiyana and Holt. I completely forgot that my Drudge units have Eyeless Sight. Rather than faffing around with complicated Overlord tricks, I could've just charged them. Argh.
Loss vs. Circle (Kreuger): Not even close. I started well, but overcommitted myself. Kreuger popped his feat on the third turn and wiped out everything in sight.
Loss vs. Mercenaries (Magnus): Another close one. It turned into a bloodbath, and almost everything was off the table by time Magnus finished things.
WIN vs. Khador (Sorscha) (The overall winner): A one-sided slaughter. I had lost well over half my forces without inflicting a single casualty. Sorscha ended her turn a tiny bit too close to my client-less Bokur. With some help from Deneghra, the Bokur was able to sneak in for the win. A bizarre victory, but I'll take what I can get!
Mangled Metal:
Loss vs Mercenaries (Magnus): Ow. Don't play Mangled Metal against Magnus.
WIN vs. Circle (Kromac): Deathjack with 5 focus, on the charge. Kromac didn't stand a chance.
Loss vs. Circle (Kromac): Kromac got his revenge.
