We're delighted to announce that not only are the Kitschies back but also, thanks to The Kraken Rum, they're more tentacular than ever.

The Kitschies are our annual award for those books which best elevate the tone of geek culture. The award celebrates the year’s most progressive, intelligent and entertaining works - the books that do the science fiction and fantasy community proud.

Winners will receive a cash prize in addition to one of our lovingly hand-crafted Tentacle trophies and a bottle of The Kraken’s fine black liquid.

Our categories are:

• Red Tentacle for Best Novel (£750)
• Golden Tentacle for Best Debut (£250)
• Inky Tentacle for Best Cover Art (£250)
• The Black Tentacle is awarded irregularly and at the judges’ discretion.

The submission deadline is 31 December 2011. We will announce the shortlists in January 2012 and the winners in February.

Hailing from the murky world of cryptozoology, there can’t be a more appropriate sponsor of the Kitschies than The Kraken Black Spiced Rum.
