Nine Worlds and Porno/Kitschiness

Nine WorldsNext weekend is Nine Worlds, a sprawling new convention set out in London's Heathrow hinterlands. We'll be running around playing games, watching films, hassling English PEN and propping up the bar (not sure how all of this will take place simultaneously, but we'll try).

Nine Worlds will also be crawling with Kitschies judges, including Will Hill, Kate Griffin and Barry Nugent, as well as previous judges Rebecca Levene and Lauren O'Farrell. Bribes will be accepted through all the standard channels. I JOKE. HA HA HA.

Various members of prize's board will also be strutting around as well, including Jenni Hill, Glen Mehn, Anne and myself. Feel free to tackle any of us with questions, and we'll do our best to nod sagely and provide reasonable answers.

A few places you can find Kitschiness:

Friday:

22:15 - 23:30 New Voices Slam Session

Short readings from new authors, including Barry Nugent, one of this year's Inky Tentacle judges.

Saturday

10:00 - 11:15: Heroes vs Villains: The Debate

A furious argument to wake you up in the morning... features, among others, Kate Griffin (one of this year's Red and Golden Tentacle judges). Moderated by our very own Anne Perry, who will be doing her best to pour gasoline on the fire.

11:45-13:00 The Publishing Panel: Q&A with Publishers and Agents

Moderated by yours truly, and featuring Juliet Mushens, Amy McCullough, Marcus Gipps and Ian Drury. I'll be doing my damndest to balance audience questions like "will you publish my book?" and "will you publish my book now?". (Publishing panels are fun, and I'll do my best to make it slightly less predictable...)

13.30 - 14.45 – Yarnbombing

A talk from Lauren O'Farrell - one of last year's Inky Tentacle judges, professional squid-wrangler and graffiti knitter extraordinaire.

15:15 - 16:30 New House, Old Ghosts: Reinventing Mythology and the Supernatural for the 21st Century

Judgetastic, with both Kate Griffin (Red/Golden) and Barry Nugent (Inky) talking modern monsters.

17:00 - 18:15 Life Beyond Westeros: What does Game of Thrones mean to the genre?

Moderated by our very own Rebecca Levene, frequent Pornokitsch author and long-serving Kitschies judge.

22:15 - 23:30 New Voices Slam Session

More short readings from over a half-dozen new authors. This session includes Tom Pollock (one of last year's Golden Tentacle finalists) and Den Patrick (frequent Pornokitsch guest poster!).

Sunday

9:00 - 9:45 What makes a fandom?

The hour is cruel, but this looks like a brilliant panel - moderated by J for Jetpack's Paul Wiseall. (Not a Kitschies related thing, but a fascinating panel and anything scheduled for 9 am on Sunday needs a lot of love...)

11:45-13:00 Racefail 101

Anne's moderating again - this time the topic is colonialism, xenophobia and racism in SF/F. A great panel, with Stephanie Saulter, Zen Cho, Rochita Loenen-Ruiz and Tade Thompson.

13:30-14:45 Nightmare Fuel: Scaring Your Audience

Features, amongst others, Will Hill (Red/Golden Tentacle judge) and Rebecca Levene (former Red/Golden Tentacle judge - maybe they'll fight?). Moderated by Jonathan Oliver, who knows horror like no other. This is a can't miss panel.

Plus all sorts of gaming and art and English PEN and comics and more gaming and films and and and and stuff. We'll see you there!
